Proof Summary There is some confusion on whether or not Joseph Meginness was born in 1836 or 1838. His biography has 21 April 1838 listed has his birthdate. The 1850 Census supports this claim. Gradually, the later censuses suggest Joseph was born in 1836. Because birth dates typically become less accurate in censuses as time goes by, this is why 1838 is listed as the birth year.
