Harvey Henry "Harry" Fairchild's obituary says "Death of a Veteran." "Died, on Sunday last (11, January 1885), of consumption at his residence in this villiage (meaning Grand Ledge, Eaton, Michigan), Mr. Harry Fairchild, aged 61 years. The deceased was a soldier in the Mexican war for two years and served four years in the Rebellion, being 1st Lieut. In the 10th Wisconsin regiment. He wa confined in diferent prisons of the south for twenty-two months. Deceased was a member of Earl Halbert Post No. 108, G. A. R. (Grand Army of the Republic), which organization was very active in providing for the needs of their afflicted comrade. The funeral ceremonies were held at the M. E. church Tuesday a. m. according to the G. A. R., usages, and were very impressive and interesting. The services were conducted by Rev. B. S. Pratt, assisted by Rev. F. Flemin."
